Capitalistic Reigns

“I want you. To consume.”
The consumer report
delivered to your door
implores
you to
consume
more
a consummate conspiracy
to make
you forget
you buy with credit
you get
pleasure
then
regret
ownership
stewardship
of a life filled with
things
but lacking depth
seek instead
to collect less
reject
culture
bereft
of depth
festering
unending spending
becomes the burden
of debt
left unaddressed
stuff
piled high
becomes
compressed
creating a mess
house
and temple
comes
to resemble
the cluttered
result
of a mind
needing to possess
piles of
pretend
happiness
never filling
the vastness
of your endless
so called
needs
fight back
wrest control
from their hold
pull back
attack
the plutocrats
raise hell
with facts
counter act
the call
to ignorance
not bliss
action
exploding impaction
a resiststance
to truth
that allows you
to grow anew
to thine own self
be true
unbound
and
unpossessed
by possession
let freedom
become
your
obsession
amortize
your Amex
edit from your
death bed
confession
your learned lesson
to be
free
of things
a free
being dreams
to fly
not bellied
by choking chains
of
capitalistic reigns
change your ways
consume less
give away
what you’ve
come to collect
redress
immaterialness
find happiness
and
true success
and all the best
in a future
invest … mend
create cultural
content instead
of fighting
to keep ahead
in the end
we’re all dead
regardless of what we spend
until then
relent
so you can
re-invent
a life
free of regret
and
with an end
to begin
again

I was working
Feeling blue
I spent precious moments
Getting to know you
I devoured your words
Imagined your face
I thanked the Divine
Guiding me to your space
The depth of your talents
Breadth of your spirit
Have always lifted
Anyone near it
Back to reality
My work still spotty
I linger in reverie
